Renovation of a holiday home for two families

A second home for two families provided an opportunity to reflect on the form of domestic space in relation to rural and shared living conditions. The project concerns a disused farmhouse on a ridge in Monferrato, located in a Unesco heritage site regulated by local landscape guidelines. The open view of the surrounding panorama and the desire to establish new spatial relationships guided the design, while respecting the guidelines and main characteristics of the existing architecture and ensuring functional validity suited to the context.

The project aims to preserve the structural characteristics of the building with no demolitions, using precise interventions on existing openings. The entire approach is underpinned by economic and practical sustainability, which determines specific layers of modification for different areas.  The emphasis is on highlighting the typical materials of the building’s construction while ensuring freedom in furnishing, not constrained by the function of different spaces.
